Ipswich Jazz Club, Review by Stephen Foster

Suffolk big band Horn Factory are going from strength to strength. They played at the Ipswich Jazz Club last weekend and there was standing room only for their impressive performance.

The band treated us to a couple of sets of modern-day big band tunes and it made a refreshing change to hear a well rehearsed jazz act that didn’t need to pad things out with long, boring solos. I’d much rather hear a prepared show even if it means it’s a bit shorter than the normal length sets at the IJC or any other club come to that.

Next up for Horn Factory is next month’s Aldeburgh Jazz Weekend. Band member Gill Burgoyne has assembled a superb bill which includes Nick Smart’s Jazz Matanzas, the Bobby Wellins Quartet and the Asaf Sirkis Trio.
