Strapline

Fast moving, hard hitting, toe tapping contemporary jazz. Nineteen of the best local jazz musicians come together and share their passion for big, bold, beautiful music.

Bio

Since 1998, Horn Factory has been bringing together some of the top musicians in the area to create our own brand of fast moving, hard hitting, foot tapping contemporary jazz. We play a wide range of contemporary big band jazz music from composers including Buddy Rich, Bob Mintzer, James Morrison, Sammy Nestico and Gordon Goodwin among others. We also play big arrangements of music normally associated with smaller groups, including music from the likes of Chick Corea and Horace Silver. Most of the charts have been composed in the last 15 years, bringing the big band genre right up to date with music that absolutely crackles with energy.

Sample Repertoire

We have several hundred tunes in our repertoire made famous by some of the biggest names in jazz. These include:

  • Buddy Rich (Love for Sale, In a Mellow Tone)
  • Sammy Nestico (Wind Machine, Blue Samuel)
  • Oliver Nelson (I Hope in Time a Change Will Come)
  • Gordon Goodwin (Mueva Los Huesos, Howdiz Songo, It’s Not Polite to Point)
  • Quincy Jones (Happy Faces)
  • Bob Minzer (Truth)
  • Mark Taylor (A Waltz for Patrice)
  • Maynard Ferguson (Fireshaker)
  • Bobby Shew (Blue)
  • Frank Mantooth (Udder Nonsense)
  • Mark Nightingale (He’s Just My Bill)
  • Joe Henderson (Recordame)
  • Chuck Mangione (Children of Sanchez)
  • Thelonius Monk (‘Round Midnight)

Quotes

“Plenty of memorable solos, and the ensemble work was something special, but when they all blew as one unit, it was powerful stuff.” Alan Crumpton, EADT
